I have used Paperport6, 7, 8, and 9. I had to switch to Paperport 12 because my Dell Windows XP machine was dying. I replaced the Dell with a Campaq Windows 7-68 bit machine with a dual core processor and Paperport works just great. Absolutely no problems downloading it and no problems running it. I did have problems, however, when I first tried the trial version on the older, slower XP Dell. I didn't like Paperport 12 at first because the layout is different from 9 and I couldn't get the PDFs Paperport scanned to look very good. But the problem was that I was scanning them it at too low a file size. Once I figured out how to scan and right into the folder I want, since my plan is to convert all my old Paperport items to pdfs anyhow.
I'm sorry Nuance made this such a big program. I think there are just too many bells and whistles here and it will take me a while to figure them out. But I think it will be fine. I'll update this.
As far as I can tell, this is the only program like this that you don't have to spend an arm and a leg for if you just want something for your home office.
Update a few weeks later: After about a month of use now on Windows 7, the program runs just fine and I'm getting used to the changes. It still takes some time to find the tool I'm looking for, but I'm sure that will work itself out. The only drawback I am finding so far is the size of the pdf files that get created when my old .max files are "saved as: pdfs, thereby creating pdf viewer plus files. They are 7 times bigger than the .max files. However, if I use the "duplicate as pdf file" tool, the file sizes are even smaller than the .max files, and they still work with the pdf viewer plus tool. I don't understand that. I DO like the pdf viewer plus tool that lets me do markups etc on the pdf files that Paperport creates. Good idea, Nuance.
