I recently had the hard drive in my Dell d420 crash so I purchased a USB external hard drive to attempt to mount the drive and recover the data. Anyhow if you are buying a 2.5" USB enclosure or already have a 2.5" IDE hard drive you will need to purchase this adapter. If you plan to mount this to a desktop you will need to purchase an extra piece to the adapter to plug in power to the hard drive. Worth the money if you need to mount your 1.8" drive in some manner other than the laptop it was originally in.
