eMachines ET1831-01 Review

Picked this up on sale and must say I am sure glad I didn't go my usual way and build another rig. This unit should handle Word Processing, Web Surfing, home finance programs just fine. Unit is very quiet, Windows 7 seems very stable and responsive, but now have to find out what happens when I start loading up older 32 bit applications like Microsoft Office 2003, ITunes, the new Norton 360, etc. and see how well it then performs. Still, at least the out of box experience went without a hitch (even drives my 24" 1920x1200 line display flawlessly - throught vga no less! Just my initial response here, will report again after I have gain some working experience with the unit. Interestingly, the Windows 7 64 bit AuthenticationSticker on the side of the case is licensed to the Acer Group! One very minor nit: the supplied mouse is an old mechanical roller type, not optical! Beware of lint!
