The Seagate Barracuda line has been around for some time and the 7200.10 represents the tenth generation and the pinnacle of their efforts so far.Ironically, the company has already released the eleventh generation but they have been plagued with problems and appear to suffer from a much higher rate of failure. Before buying, take note that this drive has a capacity of 250 GB which is not trivial, but there are drives double and even four times this size and some of them may be offered at prices that you would find reasonable. For my part, I bought this drive to use as a boot drive for a new machine, while I use a second 500 GB drive for my data. This arrangement has worked very well and so I haven't missed the extra space. The first thing you notice about this drive when you start using it is that you can't hear it.I copied a large block of files to it, put my ear right next to the drive enclosure and still couldn't hear a thing! It is reasonably fast, but if you want the ultimate in speed, check out the Western Digital Hard Drive VelociRaptor 300GB SATAII 10000rpm 16MB RoHS WD3000GLFS.While there is always a small chance of getting a bad drive, I've had zero problems with this one and expect it to be solid for years to come. The Barracuda has been all I hoped and I would buy another in a heartbeat if I needed it.
