I do not use windows, and naturally not vista (no sane person does). Strictly speaking this stuff has windows as requirement. Many other hardware lists that, but most normal ones just work fine under anything. Now, c'mon, what could a KEYBOARD and a MOUSE possibly need to be unusable? The box contain a mouse and a keyboard. The mouse is a nice one, invisible laser guided, very precise moving, very fast, slick design. It has some extra buttons. I did not really expect to be able to use them under Linux, and basically that's the case: apart from normal 3 buttons extra ones just act as duplicates. I would use this mouse.
The keyboard contains lots of "features", like VoIP keys, media control keys, a very inetersting zoom slider, lots of stupid idiot microsoft-only keys (word, excel, whatever), and an LCD to display stuff. And it can use secure connection through bluetooth to prevent every bimbo on the street to capture the keys you hit.
No, really it doesn't. Secure connection requires a windows program ever time you use it. LCD displays time (I have at least 5 digital clocks in the vicinity) or counts keypresses which can be resetted by, guess how, removing all the batteries. Other than that it isn't programmable. Junk.
VoIP keys simply do not send keycodes. Most media keys maybe do, but so far no standard-baseddriver was able to really use more than 1-2 of them.
Media control keys work. Some of them.
Zoom slider works (touchpad), unfortunately, since it's just where my left little finger is. All the time. So it keeps beeping and moving the cursor. Argh. (No way to switch it off, naturally. It's a feature.)
Extra keys (word, excel etc) do not work at all, don't send scancodes.
But what really got me going to get rid of that junk was the following two:
1) it does not have scroll lock key. nope. I need it.
2) it does not have any lock key indicator leds. (have I pressed caplock? no? or maybe yes? let's try again...)
So back to my original $10 genius crappy one, which have all the keys and all the leds. Oh well.
Dunno about windoze users. I don't have any nearby.
