My 20GB ATA boot drive in my Mac G4, dating from January 2001, had been clicking for some time now, and getting slower and slower. Finally, during a crucial job, it locked up and had to be revived with Norton Disk Doctor. (I keep a spare iBook for just such an emergency.) I needed a new boot drive.But since I bought this desktop, ATA drives as I knew them have become pretty much obsolete. As one little s*** salesman at a well-known bricks-and-mortar computer store told me, "Times change, sir". F*** him.
The one place I knew I'd be able to find a compatible hard drive was online, on Amazon. And sure enough, they came through.
It installed right in place of my old drive (I didn't even have to reposition the jumpers), and now my old G4 FLIES. It laughs at Illustrator and Photoshop. I should have done this two years ago, instead of trying to nurse the old one along.
