I have purchased many HighPoint add-in cards in the past few years (actually add-in cards with HighPoint chips) and have pretty good luck with them overall. The one downside that I would say has always plagued these cards is the lack up updates for firmware or driver support.I have owned two of these cards for different machines for 8 months now and have yet to see a new driver come out or any increased functionality from the manufacturer.I am not one who wants to update the driver just for the sake of it, but there are some flaws and while 64-bit is supported, it does seem to have some major flaws.Additionally, it is signed with an expired certificate and the windows driver is not digitally signed by Microsoft which can lead to some issues on 64-bit systems.
Only other issue that I have with this device is similar to many eSATA cards and that is that the cable can easily become dislodged from the card causing corruption in RAID drives or data loss on individual drives.
The speed of this card is very good and windows XP and Linux drivers are very good.Drivers are also available for MAC, FreeBSD and Open Source while the RAID Management Utility is available only for Windows, Linux & FreeBSD.
